Blog 235 - Decades of Travel: A New Home for a Lifetime of Journeys

Motorhome Travel, Best Travel Blogs, Travel Route Planning, All created by KeefH Web Designs, June 15th, 2026, 9.22 AM

There’s a moment every long‑term traveller reaches — a point where the memories, the photos, the scribbled notes, the shaky camcorder footage, the GPS tracks, and the stories become too big to live only in boxes, hard drives, or fading albums. After decades of adventures across continents, coastlines, cities, deserts, and mountain passes, I realised it was time to bring everything together. Not just as an archive, but as a living, growing celebration of a life spent exploring.

That’s why I’ve launched three new companion sites, each dedicated to a different way of experiencing the journeys that shaped the KHWD story. Together, they form a complete ecosystem of travel memories — visual, cinematic, and written — spanning from the mid‑1990s to today.

Welcome to the new Decades of Travel collection.

1. KHWD Travel Images — A Visual Story Told in Thousands of Photographs

Photography has always been the heartbeat of my travels. Long before smartphones made everyone a photographer, I was carrying film cameras, digital compacts, and later DSLRs, capturing the small details that make a place unforgettable — the colours of a market, the curve of a coastline, the quiet corners of a city, the faces of friends met along the way.

KHWD Travel Images is the new home for all of that visual history.

This site is built as a curated gallery of decades of photography, organised by destination, theme, and era. It’s a place where you can wander through the landscapes of the American West, the coastlines of Australia, the cities of Europe, the national parks of Canada, and the hidden gems discovered on road trips, hikes, and long-haul adventures.

Each gallery is designed to feel like a postcard collection brought to life — clean, bold, and easy to explore. Many images have never been published before; others have been rescued from old drives, restored, and given a new digital home.

If you’re someone who loves to travel through imagery, this is the site that will pull you in first.

2. Travel Video Blog KHWD — A Cinematic Journey Through the Years

Some stories are best told in motion.

Over the years, I’ve filmed hundreds of hours of travel footage — from early camcorder clips to modern drone shots and 4K travel films. The Travel Video Blog KHWD site brings all of that together in one place, turning decades of raw footage into a curated library of vlogs, short films, behind‑the‑scenes notes, and themed video stories.

This site is built for people who want to experience the journey, not just read about it. You’ll find:

  • Full travel films covering major trips

  • Short highlight reels capturing the best moments

  • Vlogs and commentary sharing the stories behind the camera

  • Creative edits that experiment with style, pacing, and storytelling

  • Behind‑the‑scenes notes on filming, gear, and the evolution of travel videography

What makes this site special is that it doesn’t just show the destinations — it shows the process of travelling. The early morning starts, the unexpected detours, the laughter, the mishaps, the long drives, the quiet sunsets, and the moments that only video can truly capture.

It’s a living archive, constantly growing as new films are added and older footage is restored and re‑edited.

3. Decades of Travel — A Written Archive of Every Journey, Year by Year

If the Images site is the gallery and the Video Blog is the cinema, then Decades of Travel is the library.

This site is the written heart of the KHWD project — a chronological archive of trips stretching from the mid‑1990s to the present day. Each year has its own dedicated section, filled with:

  • Travel diaries and blog posts

  • Route summaries and GPX files

  • Maps and key stops

  • Stories, reflections, and memorable moments

  • Links to related videos and image galleries

It’s designed for readers who love detail — the kind of people who enjoy following a route, understanding the planning behind a trip, or reliving a journey step by step.

The year‑by‑year structure makes it easy to explore the evolution of travel itself: the early backpacking years, the big long‑haul adventures, the family trips, the road‑trip eras, the return visits, and the new chapters still being written.

This site is also the best place to dive into the KHWD Holidays archive, preserving the stories that shaped the early years of our travels.

Why Three Sites Instead of One?

Because travel isn’t one‑dimensional.

A single platform couldn’t do justice to the scale and variety of the archive. Each medium — images, videos, and written stories — deserves its own space, its own design, and its own way of being experienced.

  • Images let you pause and absorb a moment.

  • Videos let you feel the movement, the sound, the atmosphere.

  • Blogs let you understand the journey, the context, and the story behind each destination.

Together, the three sites create a complete, immersive record of decades of travel — a digital museum of a life spent exploring.

What You’ll Find Across the Whole Collection

Across all three sites, you’ll discover:

  • Postcard‑style maps and graphics

  • Restored footage and photos from the 1990s onward

  • Detailed travel routes with downloadable GPX files

  • Behind‑the‑scenes insights into filming and photography

  • Travel inspiration for your own adventures

  • A growing archive that will continue to expand year after year

This isn’t just a retrospective — it’s an ongoing project. New trips, new edits, new galleries, and new stories will continue to be added, keeping the archive alive and evolving.

A Personal Invitation

Whether you’ve followed our travels for years or you’re discovering KHWD for the first time, I invite you to explore the new Decades of Travel collection in whatever way feels right for you.

Start with the images if you love photography. Start with the videos if you want to feel the journey. Start with the year‑by‑year blog if you enjoy stories and detail.

Or wander between all three — that’s the beauty of it.

These sites are more than archives. They’re a celebration of the places we’ve been, the people we’ve met, the roads we’ve travelled, and the memories that have shaped a lifetime of adventure.

And the journey isn’t over yet.

That's all folks
