  • Blog 9 The world's longest Motorhome / Rv? Snakeliner President 🤔

By keef & annie, Mar 1 2012 09:32AM The Snakeliner Presidents Suite could well be that. It has 969 sq ft (90m²) of living space, plus "The President-Suite", which we’re assuming should be the Presidential Suite but is a victim of poor translation, it is german, measures 18m (59 ft) long and 2.5m (8.2 ft) wide - not including the driver’s cabin. But if that wasn’t big enough, both sides can be extended outward a further 1.125m (3.7ft) to make it 5m (16.4 ft) wide when fully set up. Enormous but could you drive it? even with your long distance lorry drivers license our guess is maybe! If you want to see it in more detail read the full article, it was on display at the Dusseldorf show recently. Comments left on old site pre Nov 2012 The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔

  • Blog 11 Definition of the terms Motorhome & RV, also on HOME page

By keef & annie, Mar 9 2012 03:51PM A motorhome is a type of self-propelled recreational vehicle or RV which offers living accommodation combined with a vehicle engine. The term motorhome is most commonly used in the UK, Europe including Eire, United States, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. They are used for motorhome travelling and accommodation. UPDATE Nov 2021 With the enforced migration from Moonfruit to WIX for this website I have included an updated version of these definitions on the HOME page, do hope they help FEATURES A motorhome comprises sleeping accommodation for between 2 and 8 people. Each sleeping place is called a berth. Each berth is either fixed or converts from another part of the motorhome's interior. A kitchenette area will contain cooking equipment. The type of equipment included differs depending on the motorhome make and model, but generally a kitchenette has an oven, grill, hob and sink. More luxury models may also provide a microwave. A separate washroom will be housed in the motorhome. Each washroom will have a flushing cassette toilet, shower and basin. The cassette toilet sometimes swivels to provide extra room and can be accessed from outside the motorhome for easy emptying. More recent motorhomes will have a separate shower cubicle. A motorhome will also have a cab area with a driver and passenger seat. These seats often swivel to become part of the living space. A dinette area provides a table and seating space typically used for eating meals. A lounge may also be included, consisting of either a u-shaped sofa located in the rear of the motorhome or a side lounge. AMBIGUITY IN TERMINOLOGY Mix and match? between motorhome, RV (recreational vehicle) and campervan Motorhomes can be easily confused with American RVs and campervans. Their term Recreational Vehicle also refers to trailers and other types of leisure vehicle which can be towed or driven. Campervans are typically smaller than motorhomes and are constructed differently. Whilst campervans are focused with mobility and low cost, motorhomes have more emphasis on comfort. For example, campervans generally lack built-in toilets and showers, or a divide between the living compartment and the cab. Volkswagen Westfalia Campers are typical campervans. Source. Description above mostly from the Wikipedia article Motorhome but with some additions by us here at motorhome-travels blog. Saw quite a few like this in Australia & New Zealand The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔

  • Blog 13 How do I fit and remove my Milenco Wheelclamp?

By keef & annie, Mar 12 2012 07:45PM Just tried this out and was panicky that it may not come off again after fitting. Luckily it did so thought I’d share my experiences, sorry if its already blindingly obvious to many of you but whilst we are ‘experts’ in hiring vans this is the 1st we have ever owned so its precious to us. Slide the Milenco front cover with top strap over the wheel in a horizontal position, avoiding the wheel arch of the vehicle. 1.Rotate so that the top strap is over the centre of the wheel. 2.Insert the right leg through the right side of the front cover, ensuring the rear leg goes behind the tyre. 3.Insert the key and release the lock by rotating the key 90 degrees clockwise. 4.Insert left leg through the left side of the front cover. (Note: Lower edge of left hand locking plate must insert over right hand locking plate.) 5.Lock wheel-clamp by rotating the key 90 degrees anti-clockwise, and then remove your key. To remove your Milenco wheel-clamp insert key and turn 90 degrees clockwise, pull out left leg. Turn key 90 degrees anti-clockwise, remove key, pull out right leg. IMPORTANT: (From inner label) To remove your milenco wheel-clamp rotate key then push legs together to release locking pins. UPDATE: 2020 experience has told ne it is worth oiling the wind coil about once a year, just to keep it from rusting up and locking, I would hate anyone to have to angle grind the lock off, that would be such hard work The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔

  • Blog 17 Get a Cable Tidy but please be careful 🤔

By keef & annie, Mar 17 2012 12:51PM Makes it so much easier to wind and unwind those often heavy electric cables and you can set it up so that the motorhome / van / rv end is ready to attach when you arrive reminding you that it is a good idea to attach the van end first. Plus it means you don't have all that cable hanging around your van that fellow travellers can trip over. What do you think? Have your say, share your experiences. Want to follow our motorhome-travels' pinboard on Pinterest? Nov2020 Added a rather worrying image, see the 2nd image, this is what can happen, please be careful and remember to uncoil the whole cable from the cable tidy every time, thanks #justsayin Comments, from old website before November 2021

  • Blog 21 Confusion over Hose Pipe Bans! 2012

By keef & annie, Mar 26 2012 09:41AM With special thanks to Brian (anne's brother) for this article / response from MMM. Are you confused about how the hose pipe bans ,currently only in the south of England, may affect you this summer as a Motorhomer. Read this "Dear Brian With the confusion over whether motorhomers in the south of the country can or can’t fill their water tanks using a hosepipe we have successfully petitioned two of the water companies in the affected areas to exempt motorhomes from the hosepipe bans that are coming into force early next month. However, there are still several water companies that have either not yet clarified the situation or are still in consultation. Readers are advised to check with their water supplier after April 5 before filling up using a hosepipe. Meanwhile, it is not all bad news – the former Brownhills site in Preston is now under new ownership, which is great news for motorhomers in the area. And, Ford is starting to let details of its new – and much anticipated – Transit to come out ahead of its official launch next month. In addition, those of you heading north of the border this summer are in for cheaper ferry tickets after the Scottish government agreed to reducing prices after a successful trial. Read on for more… Happy motorhoming! Daniel Attwood " Our view was that as it is in essence for domestic use it is exempt however but its worth knowing / checking Want to follow our motorhome-travels' pinboard on Pinterest? Scary tag because of the danger of all this

  • Blog 22 How do I know how much gas is left in my bottle?

By keef & annie, Mar 26 2012 11:12AM Came across this wonderful little gadget . It shows the level of gas in a cylinder. Safe, reusable and accurate. Attaches to bottle using magnetic strip. We have one and its been so much better than memory or turning on the cooker ring and finding it has 'stopped'. Here is a place we got one from but there will be others on eBay. Take a look 2016 Update: Many of the modern light weight bottles now have a red / green indicator on the top, may be worth using as well assuming you can get to see it 2020 Update: Light weight bottles withdrawn, dangerous indeed we were woken at 2am by the carbon monoxide alarm when camping at the site at Brighton, very frightening, now safely replaced, you cannot get them any more

  • Blog 30 Campsite humour, Motorhomers do have one 😉

By keef & annie, Apr 14 2012 05:27PM Found these lovely signs provided by 'friends of motorhome-travels' so thought it would be nice to share them. Do you have any amusing sign pictures you may have taken on your RV / Motorhome travels that you could share with our readers? Dig them out, please. Also how about these "Campers" Comments They are actual comments left on U. S. Forest Service registration sheets and comment cards by backpackers completing wilderness camping trips: •“A small deer came into my camp and stole my bag of pickles. Is there a way I can get reimbursed? Please call.” •“Escalators would help on steep uphill sections.” •“Instead of a permit system or regulations, the Forest Service needs to reduce worldwide population growth to limit the number of visitors to wilderness.” •“Trails need to be wider so people can walk while holding hands.” •“Ban walking sticks in wilderness. Hikers that use walking sticks are more likely to chase animals.” •“All the mile markers are missing this year.” •“Found a smoldering cigarette left by a horse.” •“Trails need to be reconstructed. Please avoid building trails that go uphill.” •“Too many bugs and leeches and spiders and spider webs. Please spray the wilderness to rid the area of these pests.” •“Please pave the trails so they can be plowed of snow in the winter.” •“Chair lifts need to be in some places so that we can get to wonderful views without having to hike to them.” •“The coyotes made too much noise last night and kept me awake. Please eradicate these annoying animals.” •“Reflectors need to be placed on trees every 50 feet so people can hike at night with flashlights.” •“Need more signs to keep area pristine.” •“A McDonald’s would be nice at the trail head.” •“The places where trails do not exist are not well marked.” •“Too many rocks in the mountains.” Haha.... Have your say ....PLEASE *smile*
