- Blog 5 Advice for travelling in France, Breathalyser kits, Yes or No? Not enforced by the French plus exclude POI for France on SatNavs
By keef & annie, Feb 25 2012 02:01PM Breathalyser kits A KeefH Web Designs Travel Blog Breathalyser kits - Travelling in France with your motorhome? This guide explains the real rules around breathalyser kits, what the law actually requires, and how to avoid confusion on the road. Clear, practical advice helps UK travellers stay compliant, prepared and confident when driving in France. Essential reading for anyone planning a safe, stress‑free European motorhome trip. There are supposedly two major changes for us Brits travelling in our Motorhomes / RVs to France from this year. It is hard to prove conclusively that they are now law but it would be sensible to know about them. 1. The need to carry a breathalyser kit for each person on your Motorhome with you 2. If you have speed camera detection on your Satnav under POI (points of interest) you will have to disable it. You can order a twin NF pack of personal breathalysers here from Alcosense. Just make sure you get the ones that conform to the supposed new French law. We are not sure what you do if you cannot disable the POI function on your SatNav but from things we have read that under the new french law they can fine you up to Euros$1000 and impound your motorhome. This is in line with them ‘hiding’ speed cameras and ensuring being aware of them is illegal under french law. We will continue to research and update the Blog when we know more definitively. If you know more please let us know in the comments. Thanks UPDATE: 8/3/12 Assuming your Satnav is a TomTom when you plug it into TomTom HOME there is an option to exclude POI for France. May be worth selecting this option! UPDATE: 12/8/13 latest views on breathalysers are that this will no longer be enforced by the French but suggest checking the latest website bulletins before travelling, there are definitely some grounds for confusion but we would hate you to be caught out. The satnav advice is definitely current but TomTom etc. give you the option when you connect your device breathalyser kit from alcosense The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔

- Blog 7 Luxury Motorhomes The "Futuria" 2012 ✅Seen at the Birmingham NEC motorhome show if memory serves me right
By keef & annie, Feb 26 2012 03:59PM Luxury Motorhomes Futuria Luxury Motorhomes Futuria - Meet the Futuria, the motorhome that looks like it was designed by someone who asked, “What if a luxury yacht and a sci‑fi villain’s lair had a baby?” This blog takes a playful look at its over‑the‑top curves, glossy finishes and features that make ordinary vans feel like garden sheds. It’s part glamour, part madness and entirely entertaining — a fun dive into one of the most flamboyant RVs ever built. This one is not quite as expensive as the worlds most expensive Motorhome but its getting there. Why not take a look in more detail at the Futuria (<-just click here). Here's the SUMMARY just in case If you like to travel in style, then the Futuria luxury motorhome is for you! The latest in highest quality motorhomes is Futuria’s "Sports and Spa" caravan, which was recently unveiled at the Caravan Salon 2010 in Dusseldorf, Germany. This mansion on wheels contains everything for luxury travelling: bathroom, bedroom, roof terrace with Jacuzzi and even sports car garage. Not only does it feature a Jacuzzi on the roof, but also a 36ft terrace leading to it - lots of room to set up the tables and chairs and a barbecue then! The 49ft-long, 6.5-ton vehicle has a built-in electrical generator meaning you don't have to stop your partying whilst on the move. Inside it has a full-sized living room and bed area, as well as a 'kitchenette' . Outside you'll find the reason for the 'sports' moniker, a garage which you can access from the side, or rear, perfect for parking your latest Lamborghini or Ferrari. The Futuria only has a top speed of 55 mph, so if you are in a hurry, you may wish to let down the ramps and let your supercar out to drive to your destination separately. And it's a bargain, with many other additional features, this luxurious motor caravan will only cost you $840,000 ( around £550,000 ) And just think about it, as they say "you wouldn't get much change from your house, if ANY, for this one" i want one of these but would i be able to drive it? - Blog 9 The World's Longest Motorhome / Rv ? Snakeliner President 🤔
By Keef & Annie, Mar 1 2012 09:32AM originally And then again Updated by KeefH Web Designs, January 28th, 2025, 15.10 PM and again 24/5/2026 15.12PM Meet the Snakeliner President, the motorhome so long it needs its own postcode and possibly air‑traffic control. This blog takes a playful look at the world’s longest RV, a rolling palace that makes ordinary vans feel like garden sheds. From its outrageous size to its luxury features, it’s part engineering marvel, part “where on earth do you park that?” curiosity. A fun read for anyone who loves motorhomes with ambition. WORLD's LONGEST MOTORHOME ? The Snakeliner Presidents Suite could well be that. It has 969 sq ft (90m²) of living space, plus "The President-Suite", which we’re assuming should be the Presidential Suite but is a victim of poor translation, it is German, measures 18m (59 ft) long and 2.5m (8.2 ft) wide - not including the driver’s cabin. But if that wasn’t big enough, both sides can be extended outward a further 1.125m (3.7ft) to make it 5m (16.4 ft) wide when fully set up. Enormous but could you drive it? even with your long distance lorry drivers license our guess is maybe! If you want to see it in more detail read the full article, it was on display at the Dusseldorf show recently. i.e. back in 2012. By 2026 this is the position The motorhome most widely claimed to be the world’s longest in 2026 is the fictional or concept‑level “2026 Kenworth 8‑Story Giant Motorhome,” promoted in viral media as an eight‑storey, ultra‑luxury, building‑sized RV. It is not a verified production vehicle, but it is the only 2026 model publicly described as the “world’s biggest motorhome.” Snakeliner President Suite, the worlds longest in 2012? Comments left on old site pre Nov 2012 OLD SKOOL The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔 UPDATED USING AI & HUMAN POWER #smile World's longest motorhome? Maybe It's a spacious, almost surreal giant of the motorhome world, the Snakeliner President Suite stands out in this blog as a rare, record‑challenging RV whose sheer scale blurs the line between luxury apartment and road‑legal vehicle. ✨ 250‑Word Summary of this Blog This blog explores the extraordinary Snakeliner President Suite, a German‑built motorhome that may well be the world’s longest RV—at least as of its 2012 appearance at the Düsseldorf Show. The author highlights its astonishing dimensions: 18 metres (59 ft) long and 2.5 metres (8.2 ft) wide, expanding to an impressive 5 metres (16.4 ft) when both slide‑outs are fully extended. This creates an enormous 969 sq ft (90 m²) of living space, making it closer to a luxury flat than a traditional motorhome. The post notes the slightly awkward translation of its name (“President-Suite”), but the grandeur behind it is unmistakable. With its vast interior footprint, the Snakeliner raises an amusing but genuine question: could anyone actually drive this thing? Even with a long‑distance lorry license, the author suspects maneuvering such a beast would be a challenge. This blog encourages readers to explore the full article for more details and mentions that the vehicle was recently showcased at the Düsseldorf exhibition. It also includes a brief nod to the blog’s indexing system, inviting visitors to browse other posts, use the search tools, or join the wider motorhome community through Facebook and Pinterest. Overall, the piece is a light, engaging snapshot of an RV so large and unusual that it becomes a curiosity—part engineering marvel, part travel‑lover’s fantasy, and part logistical puzzle. THE END not a Snakeliner but close, we saw one like this blog 135
- Blog 10 Motorhome Insurance, Safeguard good for us, Recommended No 8
By keef & annie, Mar 8 2012 09:07AM Motorhome Insurance Sorting out motorhome insurance shouldn’t feel like decoding ancient runes, yet here we are. This blog looks at Safeguard and latterly Performance Direct , why it turned out to be a surprisingly good fit for us — no smoke, no mirrors, just cover that actually makes sense. With a light sprinkle of humour and a nod to the joys of policy small print, it’s a handy read for anyone trying to insure their pride and joy without losing the will to live. UPDATE retrospectively numbered as a Recommended Leisure Van trader by us in November 2022 Because they were very good to us when we broke down in 2014 in France, but times have moved on and with the cost-of-living crisis our loyalty has had to be dispensed with in favour of price, so we are now with Performance Direct for both our insurance and breakdown cover but (if price didn't win out over Service) we would still highly recommend Safeguard. Performance Direct are however not bad either and covered our relay back when the van's cambelt went in BLOG 152 Previously Here in the UK, we did an enormous amount of research whilst trying to select the right insurance for our Motorhome. Our lovely Wendy house, VW auto sleeper clubman anniversary which we adore, by 2021 had her now for almost 10 years, and 46 trips in her. There are lots of factors to consider. price, cover, breakdown assistance, excess, value for money etc. etc. We found that many of the normal car insurance companies just don't do cover for motorhomes, and you may well have difficulty getting your no claims discount statement from your car insurance company, even though they don't offer the service, as they try to protect what they term 'their business'. You will probably need it as on the basis of your car no claims you are generally given a discretionary 4 or 5 years no claims for Motorhomes. Anyhow after some extensive research and asking friends & family we would recommend SAFEGUARD Comparable on price, if not a little cheaper, but the unlimited mileage (many charges are by the miles you do in the year and frankly we don't know the answer to that question yet) and AA European breakdown cover made it right for us. What do you think or recommend. Have your say in the comments box below. Let's get a discussion going for the good of all of us motor homers / rv-ers / campervanners We used them in France, and they were wonderful when the starter motor went on our van See Blog 71 By 2020 however we had swapped to use Performance Direct as in the growing health & economic crisis that is the global pandemic Covid-19 cost was important to us but I will still continue to champion them for the wonderful help they gave us in 2014, thx again folks so so helpful to us in France in 2014, highly recommended for service The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔
- Blog 11 Definition of the terms Motorhome & RV, also on Old site HOME page now labelled MORE, See also Blog 33
By keef & annie, Mar 9 2012 03:51PM Definition of the terms Motorhome RV Definition of the terms Motorhome RV - This blog tackles the age‑old question: what’s the difference between a motorhome and an RV, and why does everyone argue about it at campsites? With clear definitions, a dash of humour and a nod to the jargon we all pretend to understand, it sorts out the terminology once and for all. A light, informative read for anyone who’s ever nodded wisely while secretly wondering what on earth Class A, B or C actually means. A motorhome is a type of self-propelled recreational vehicle or RV which offers living accommodation combined with a vehicle engine. The term motorhome is most commonly used in the UK, Europe including Eire, United States, Canada, Australia & New Zealand. They are used for motorhome travelling and accommodation. UPDATE Nov 2021 With the enforced migration from Moonfruit to WIX for this website I have included an updated version of these definitions on the HOME page, do hope they help FEATURES A motorhome comprises sleeping accommodation for between 2 and 8 people. Each sleeping place is called a berth. Each berth is either fixed or converts from another part of the motorhome's interior. A kitchenette area will contain cooking equipment. The type of equipment included differs depending on the motorhome make and model, but generally a kitchenette has an oven, grill, hob and sink. More luxury models may also provide a microwave. A separate washroom will be housed in the motorhome. Each washroom will have a flushing cassette toilet, shower and basin. The cassette toilet sometimes swivels to provide extra room and can be accessed from outside the motorhome for easy emptying. More recent motorhomes will have a separate shower cubicle. A motorhome will also have a cab area with a driver and passenger seat. These seats often swivel to become part of the living space. A dinette area provides a table and seating space typically used for eating meals. A lounge may also be included, consisting of either a u-shaped sofa located in the rear of the motorhome or a side lounge. AMBIGUITY IN TERMINOLOGY Mix and match? between motorhome, RV (recreational vehicle) and campervan Motorhomes can be easily confused with American RVs and campervans. Their term Recreational Vehicle also refers to trailers and other types of leisure vehicle which can be towed or driven. Campervans are typically smaller than motorhomes and are constructed differently. Whilst campervans are focused with mobility and low cost, motorhomes have more emphasis on comfort. For example, campervans generally lack built-in toilets and showers, or a divide between the living compartment and the cab. Volkswagen Westfalia Campers are typical campervans. Source. Description above mostly from the Wikipedia article Motorhome but with some additions by us here at motorhome-travels blog. Saw quite a few like this in Australia & New Zealand now is this a motorhome? answers on a postcard please, maybe the definitions will help The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔

- Blog 13 How do I fit and remove my Milenco Wheelclamp? Protection guaranteed for our very expensive motorhomes
By keef & annie, Mar 12 2012 07:45PM Fit and remove Milenco Wheelclamp Fit and remove Milenco Wheelclamp - Fitting a Milenco Wheelclamp shouldn’t feel like an Olympic event, yet here we are: crouching, wobbling and muttering words that definitely aren’t in the manual. This blog walks you through the process without the drama, explaining how to attach and remove the clamp without trapping fingers, losing patience or performing accidental yoga. A light, practical guide for keeping your motorhome secure and your dignity mostly intact. Just tried this out and was panicky that it may not come off again after fitting. Luckily it did so thought I’d share my experiences, sorry if its already blindingly obvious to many of you but whilst we are ‘experts’ in hiring vans this is the 1st we have ever owned so its precious to us. Slide the Milenco front cover with top strap over the wheel in a horizontal position, avoiding the wheel arch of the vehicle. 1.Rotate so that the top strap is over the centre of the wheel. 2.Insert the right leg through the right side of the front cover, ensuring the rear leg goes behind the tyre. 3.Insert the key and release the lock by rotating the key 90 degrees clockwise. 4.Insert left leg through the left side of the front cover. (Note: Lower edge of left hand locking plate must insert over right hand locking plate.) 5.Lock wheel-clamp by rotating the key 90 degrees anti-clockwise, and then remove your key. To remove your Milenco wheel-clamp insert key and turn 90 degrees clockwise, pull out left leg. Turn key 90 degrees anti-clockwise, remove key, pull out right leg. IMPORTANT: (From inner label) To remove your milenco wheel-clamp rotate key then push legs together to release locking pins. UPDATE: 2020 experience has told ne it is worth oiling the wind coil about once a year, just to keep it from rusting up and locking, I would hate anyone to have to angle grind the lock off, that would be such hard work this is one from a caravan but ours is very similar only for a motorhome it has one side The INDEX page has TAGs for all Blogs and by year or month, A-Z INDEX alphabetically or just using the LETTERs in the Tag maps, or you can use the SEARCH page to look for something or just use the search facilities here on the BLOG or the associated Blogs attached to each Blog, entirely up to you, there is a wealth of ways to find what you want, thanks for looking motorhome-travel blog, LIKE to join our Facebook community or have a look at all our great "motorhomes" on our pin board, why not, join the conversation “motorhomes R us” 😉 🌠 ✅ 🤔 fitting instructions diagram for a milenco wheelclamp for a motorhome

- Blog 21 Confusion over Hose Pipe Bans! 2012
By keef & annie, Mar 26 2012 09:41AM Hose Pipe Bans Hose Pipe Bans - This blog explores the widespread confusion surrounding the 2012 hosepipe bans and how they affected motorhome owners across the UK. It explains the rules, regional differences and why guidance often contradicted itself. If you’ve ever wondered whether filling your tank counted as a breach, this clear, factual breakdown helps cut through the uncertainty. A useful read for anyone wanting accurate water‑use information while touring. With special thanks to Brian (Anne's brother) for this article / response from MMM. Are you confused about how the hose pipe bans ,currently only in the south of England, may affect you this summer as a Motorhomer. Read this "Dear Brian With the confusion over whether motorhomers in the south of the country can or can’t fill their water tanks using a hosepipe we have successfully petitioned two of the water companies in the affected areas to exempt motorhomes from the hosepipe bans that are coming into force early next month. However, there are still several water companies that have either not yet clarified the situation or are still in consultation. Readers are advised to check with their water supplier after April 5 before filling up using a hosepipe. Meanwhile, it is not all bad news – the former Brownhills site in Preston is now under new ownership, which is great news for motorhomers in the area. And, Ford is starting to let details of its new – and much anticipated – Transit to come out ahead of its official launch next month. In addition, those of you heading north of the border this summer are in for cheaper ferry tickets after the Scottish government agreed to reducing prices after a successful trial. Read on for more… Happy motorhoming!
