Campsite Advice
Choosing the right campsite can transform a motorhome trip from a simple stopover into a memorable experience. Below is a curated guide to some of the most reliable, useful and well‑established campsite schemes and stopover networks across the UK and Europe. Each offers something different — from peaceful adults‑only retreats to budget‑friendly overnight halts and full‑facility club sites.
ACSI
ACSI is a well‑known European campsite discount scheme offering excellent value, especially when touring outside peak season. ACSI sites are plentiful across Europe, with a handful in southern England. The guide, map and membership card are helpful, and in Europe the card can often be left as security instead of your passport.
Annual membership is approximately €14, with an additional €4 for the card.
Visit their website: HERE
Aires (Europe)
European Aires are dedicated motorhome stopovers ranging from basic overnight halts to fully serviced areas. They vary in size and quality but are invaluable for flexible touring.
A recommended UK supplier of Aires guides is Vicarious Books in Kent — knowledgeable, friendly and well established.
Visit their website: HERE
Best of British Holiday Parks
A premium network of independently owned 5‑star holiday parks across the UK. These sites focus on high‑quality facilities, landscaped grounds and strong customer service. Ideal for motorhomers who want a more luxurious stay.
Visit their website: HERE
Britstops
Britstops provides an excellent network of low‑cost or free stopovers across Great Britain and Ireland, similar in concept to the French Aires system. The annual guide is professionally produced and easy to navigate, dividing Great Britain into nine regions and Ireland into four. Each section includes clear maps, symbols for facilities, suitability for larger motorhomes, host details, and precise directions.
It’s a cost‑effective resource (approx. £36 per annum including P&P), and using it just a couple of times easily covers the fee. Britstops has recently been taken over by Holland Hosts.

Camping & Caravanning Club (C&CC)
Known as “The Friendly Club”, the C&CC offers a wide range of UK sites. We’re not members but have stayed at several and always found them welcoming. Some sites are jointly operated with the Caravan & Motorhome Club. Julia Bradbury is the club’s President.

Camping Sites in Britain
A powerful filter‑based selection tool listing over 7,800 UK campsites - gives you a multi selection mechanism covering all manner of things, such as dogs / campfires / beaches /hookups / hard standing / showers / CL-CS but majors on campsites / caravan parks /motorhome sites / glamping. Here you can answer the age old question on selection "How to Choose the Right Campsite in the UK: A Practical Guide" ?
Visit their website: HERE
Caravan & Motorhome Club (C&MC)
The Caravan & Motorhome Club offers a large network of consistently high‑standard sites across the UK. Their main sites typically cost around £35-45 per night for two adults and a motorhome, while their Certified Locations (CLs) — small, often rural sites with up to five pitches — provide a more budget‑friendly alternative.
Members receive a comprehensive site book and map. We’ve stayed at many C&MC sites and CLs over the years and always found them reliable. The club also owns the Alan Rogers guides.
Visit their website: HERE
CL vs CS Schemes (Club‑Certified Small Sites)
CLs (C&MC), also CS sites (C&CC). Key differences:
-
CL: Certified Location: Caravan & Motorhome Club, motorhomes/caravans only, no tents.
-
CS: Certified Small Sites: Camping & Caravanning Club, tents allowed, broader mix of campers. Both allow up to five pitches, require no full site license, and offer quiet rural stays.

Commercial Holiday Parks (General Category)
Not a single organisation, but an important selection method. These are larger parks offering pools, entertainment, shops, bars and family‑friendly facilities. They typically cost £25–£50+ per night, depending on season and location.
Independent Luxury Touring Parks (Non‑Group)
Some parks operate independently but maintain extremely high standards similar to Morris Leisure or Best of British. These often appear in regional tourism awards or specialist guides.
Morris Leisure Luxury Campsites
Morris Leisure operates a small group of high‑quality campsites, mainly near the Welsh borders. Their loyalty scheme offers one free night for every 12 stamps collected. Prices average around £34 per night — noticeably cheaper than many C&MC sites.
We highly recommend them. So far, we’ve stayed at Ludlow (twice), Bridgnorth and Shrewsbury, with plans to visit the remaining sites.
Visit their website: HERE
National Trust (NT)
Although the National Trust is better known for cottages and heritage stays, they do operate a small number of campsites. We’ve stayed at Houghton Mill and found it charming, with the beautiful surroundings you’d expect from the NT.
Visit their website: HERE
PitchUp / Campsites.co.uk / UKCampsite.co.uk (Aggregator Platforms)
While not “schemes”, these platforms are widely used selection tools offering:
-
verified reviews
-
facility filters
-
price comparison
-
availability calendars They help identify independent sites not part of any club or group.
Tranquil Parks
Tranquil Parks is a collection of “Adult Only” campsites offering peaceful, quiet stays. Some sites overlap with other schemes such as Best of British, but many are unique to the network. We’ve stayed at several and always enjoyed the calm atmosphere.
For an example, see our Blog 196 featuring Plough Lane.
Visit their website: HERE
RoamWorthy Campsite Membership Comparison (Selection Strategy)
RoamWorthy’s 2026 guide explains how memberships (C&MC vs C&CC) can save £12–£15 per night, and how CL/CS access is often the biggest benefit. This is useful as a decision‑making method for choosing which club to join.
Visit their website: HERE
Small Farm Sites (Independent CL/CS‑Style but Non‑Club)
Many farms operate small, quiet touring areas similar to CL/CS sites but not under club exemption schemes. These can be found through regional tourism boards, local directories or platforms like PitchUp. They offer peace, space and low prices — often £10–£25 per night.
Wild Camping (Where Legal)
A selection method for experienced motorhomers seeking solitude.
-
England: Only legally permitted on parts of Dartmoor (confirmed by the UK Supreme Court, May 2025).
-
Scotland: Allowed under the Land Reform Act 2003, following the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
-
Elsewhere: Requires landowner permission.
